According to the story, the attack happened on the night of August 19 while the family was asleep on the terrace of the house. The assailants have not been identified as yet. As per the Jagran report, Raina's relatives were attacked with weapons while they were in their sleep.
“It is being said that Asha Devi, sister of Raina’s father is fighting for her life in the hospital, while his uncle, identified as 58-year-old Ashok Kumar died in the attack. His cousins – 32-year-old Kaushal Kumar and 24-year-old Apin Kumar also sustained injuries in the attack. Deceased Ashok Kumar’s 80-year-old mother also sustained serious injuries in the attack,” the report stated.
“Meanwhile, the police have paced their investigation after getting to know that the victims are the close relatives of Suresh Raina. A team of police and forensic experts have collected evidence from the spot. The police also took help from the dog squad to identify the attackers but failed to get any clue,” the report went on to add.
CSK CEO KS Viswanathan, earlier in the day, confirmed that Raina had returned to India for personal reasons, and that he would be missing the entire IPL 2020 edition. Raina had announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 at the age of merely 33, having last played for India in 2018.
IPL 2020 is scheduled to be held across three venues in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. This even as more than 10 members of the CSK contingent recently tested positive for Coronavirus.
